Emily's impending arrival

This morning I opened my eyes to a blinding computer screen full of numbers. Denise had been awake, putting down the timings of her contractions for the past few hours. As they got down to the 3 minute interval we decided to start the trek to the hospital at 4:30 in the morning.

For the past few months we've been talking about the possibility of a vbac. We knew it might not be possible, but it would leave open the choice for more kiddos later. It's also risky, but again, so is birth in general. We'd need the full cooperation of the hospital, doctors, and most importantly Emily.

In fact, she probably had the biggest role in our decisions. 4:30AM happened to be a time when the doctor on call happened to be one who refused to do vbacs. The first thing they did was inject terbutaline to stop labor so that our doctor would have time to be around...

Here's the deal though, it is very difficult to do a procedure when most of the doctors will not support you, and the one who might is only around sometimes.

Yes we have a few other choices. But, our choice this time was to go ahead with the c-section and not run this same gauntlet over and over.

Anyways, we are moving forward, and have scheduled a 5:30 surgery. Soon we'll be seeing a baby!
